Amazon has officially introduced its Prime subscription service in South Africa, bundling fast, free delivery with a suite of entertainment perks for R59 per month or a discounted annual rate of R399.
Robert Koen, Managing Director of Amazon Sub-Saharan Africa, stated that after building a strong retail foundation in the country over the past two years, the company is now ready to provide local shoppers with a comprehensive membership that combines shopping and streaming benefits.
Comprehensive Benefits for Prime Members
Unlimited Delivery: Subscribers get free same-day and next-day shipping on a broad catalog of goods – ranging from electronics to everyday essentials – with no minimum purchase requirement. Unlimited free same-day delivery is available for all orders placed before midday in Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Cape Town.
Entertainment Perks: The subscription includes access to Prime Video, the Amazon Luna cloud gaming platform (supporting titles like Hogwarts Legacy, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Fortnite), and a free monthly Twitch channel subscription.
Shopping Advantages: Members receive exclusive access to Prime Day events and early entry to major sales, such as Black Friday deals.
So, when is the Inaugural South African Prime Day?
To mark the launch, Amazon has scheduled its inaugural South African Prime Day from 23 June to 29 June 2026, providing subscribers with exclusive deals and discounts on thousands of items.
Jamil Ghani, Vice President of Amazon Prime, noted that the service has consistently become an “indispensable part” of daily life in other markets by saving members both time and money.
He emphasized that the South African launch is just the beginning of the value the company intends to bring to local customers.
