Review: Van Coke Kartel & Barbosa Experience @ Aandklas Hatfield

On Thursday last week I made our way to Aandklas Hatfield to catch one of the Pretoria legs of the Van Coke Kartel Winter Acoustic tour. It was a fun filled affair. 500 people made their way into the venue and the atmosphere was absolutely electric.

Here’s my review of Van Coke Kartel & Barbosa Experience @ Aandklas Hatfield

Barbosa Experience were up first. This Pretoria based band has been making waves in the capital city over the last year. The band which was made up out of Pedro Barbosa (who is also in Mrs B), Peter Toussaint (from Fake Leather Blues Band), Rudi Oosthuizen and Heine Van Der Walt (who is also in Mrs B and Boargasm) on the night got the Aandklas Hatield crowd into a jovial mood. The majority of their set was covers but they did play a fair amount of original songs as well. I was particularly impressed with their version of “A Finger Or Two”. Their definitely one of the acts you should check out when you get a chance. Check out some photos that I took of them below.

Next up were Van Coke Kartel. These Bellville boytjies played an energetic set featuring all the songs that have made them one of the most popular acts in the country. It was amazing hearing the capacity crowd sing along loudly to songs like “September Fools” and “Tot Die Song Uitkom”.  Their set may have been semi-acoustic but it did not stop the crowd from starting a mini mosh pit in front of the stage. It was a little crowded, but that made the atmosphere greater – it was still one of the best shows that I’ve seen them play this year.  Check out the photos from their set below.
