Remember the 1990s? Remember those Vodacom adverts? In case you did not know, Vodacom is South Africa’s Biggest Cellular Network (with more than 41 million subscribers). The company also sponsors various teams in Super Rugby Tournament (which is played between various teams from South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Argentina).
The company also sponsors two SA football clubs in the Premier Soccer League (PSL): Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. They also sponsor the South African Football Association and the national teams Bafana Bafana (men), Amajita (under 20’s), and previously Banyana Banyana (women).
Vodacom was founded in 1994. The company has grown over the years to include networks in Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique and Lesotho. The company also provides business services to customers in over 40 African countries. Since 2008, Vodacom’s parent company has been British multinational telecommunications conglomerate Vodafone.
Over the years the company has released some memorable and some not-so-memorable adverts. This Vodacom advert is probably one of the more memorable ones though. This advert features two Springboks: Brendon Paulse and Schalk Burger. Some San people are also featured in the advert.
It seems that this Vodacom advert has stood the test of time. I think it’s still legit. What do you think?
