The latest advertising campaign from The Courier Guy has become a sensation in South Africa, garnering more than half a million views on YouTube in less than three weeks. Starring the renowned local comedian Leon Schuster, the ad playfully alludes to the imminent IRB Rugby World Cup and adds a creative spin to the iconic “Hier Kom die Bokke” anthem, originally popularized by Schuster during the 1995 IRB Rugby World Cup.

In the advertisement, The Courier Guy’s delivery team spontaneously breaks into song while delivering a collection of packages to Leon Schuster. They joyfully sing “Hier Kom die Bokse,” a clever play on words related to the parcels they’re delivering.

The Courier Guy

This advertisement serves a dual purpose: firstly, it showcases The Courier Guy’s exceptional customer service, and secondly, it underscores the company’s strong support for the Springboks in the lead-up to the IRB Rugby World Cup.

It follows the previous viral sensation, the “Self Defence Expert” ad from last year, in which cash-in-transit security hero Leo Prinsloo imparted safety lessons to The Courier Guy trainees.

The Courier Guy is deeply committed to incorporating South African icons into their humorous advertisements, demonstrating their pride in being a truly South African business. Leon Schuster, a beloved figure throughout South Africa, played a pivotal role in the latest ad’s viral success.

Simon Hill, Head of Marketing comments

“After all, it’s his song. We are also well aware of South Africans’ affection for Leon, and he was the ideal choice to effectively convey our message. It’s a nostalgic, enjoyable, and perfectly communicates our company’s core values and identity.”
