Adam Boyd Unveils New Single: “Going Down”

UK-based singer-songwriter Adam Boyd has released his second solo single, “Going Down”, accompanied by a striking official music video now available on YouTube and major streaming platforms. The release marks another step forward in his evolving solo career, showcasing a deeper and more atmospheric sound.

Best known as the former frontman of Wake to Wonder, Boyd first gained recognition in South Africa with multiple chart-topping hits and music videos that received airplay on MTV. Now based in the UK, he is forging a new path as a solo artist, blending introspective songwriting with cinematic soundscapes and visuals.

A Darker, More Introspective Sound

“Going Down” represents a more immersive and emotionally intense direction for Boyd. The track explores themes of uncertainty, faith, ambition, and inner conflict, creating a haunting listening experience that draws the listener into its layered atmosphere.

The inspiration behind the song is deeply personal. Boyd explains that it was written during a difficult time in his life following the loss of his mother and witnessing his father’s struggle with grief.

“It was a period where everything felt uncertain,” he says. “The song became a way for me to process those emotions and the questions that came with them.”

At its core, “Going Down” reflects on the fragile line between holding everything together and quietly falling apart.

“It’s about not knowing whether you’re staying afloat or slipping under,” Boyd adds. “It deals with doubt, faith, ambition, and self-reflection. The central question is: am I going down, or have I already gone down without realising it?”

Building the Sound From Simplicity

The song began with a minimalist idea that gradually evolved into a rich and layered composition.

“It all started with a single piano note that repeats throughout the track,” Boyd explains. “From that one sound, I began building the chords and atmosphere around it. The verses came first, and the chorus followed naturally. The bridge developed from deeper, darker questions, especially around faith and personal struggles.”

To complete the track, Boyd teamed up with producer and engineer Dave Law, who handled the mixing and mastering.

“I recorded the song independently, and Dave really connected with it straight away,” Boyd says. “He became a great sounding board and added subtle production touches that helped bring everything together.”

A Promising Next Chapter for Adam Boyd

The release of “Going Down” follows Boyd’s debut solo single “What You Really Needed”, which introduced listeners to his emotionally driven style and cinematic approach.

With this latest track, Boyd pushes his artistic vision even further, delivering a darker and more introspective piece that highlights his growth as a solo artist.

Blending raw emotion with immersive sound and visuals, “Going Down” signals an exciting new phase for Adam Boyd as he continues to shape a distinctive voice in the alternative music space.
