Today I’m featuring the music video for “My Name” (a song by December Streets). The band hail from Pretoria, South Africa) and have been crooning, plucking and pounding out tunes since early 2009. Eclectic rhythms, a symphonic trio of guitars, a voice to match, unique drumbeats and a pumping trumpet make this is a band to watch.
Their style ranges, but the catchy beat-lyric combos found in songs like “Fire Through The Window” and “Who Needs Shoes” are signature. The band consists of Tristan Coetzee (on vocals and guitar), Gideon Meyer (on bass guitar), Waldo Boshoff (on trumpet), Corneil Clasen (on drums) and Nico van Loggerenberg (on lead guitar).
Their EP was recorded at Anti-Motion studios. “Fire through the Window” and “Who Needs Shoes” both reached the number one position on the Tuks FM Most Wanted and SA Top 10 charts.
Their newest hit (the song that is featured today), “My Name”, has been play listed on 5FM. In 2010 December Streets walked away from the KFC Sessions as the winning band. The finals for this competition was held in October last year in Hatfield Square.
I watched them perform the first time at that gig. I also saw them perform at Hatfield Carnival in February 2011 as well. I honestly think that December Streets are one of the bands to watch in the SA music scene this year.
