Pretoria-based indie-rock outfit Future Radio has teamed up with Mozambique-born, South Africa-based solo artist Pedro Barbosa for a brand-new collaborative single, “Better Off Alone”.
The track is a guitar-driven anthem about finding the inner strength to walk away from a broken relationship and ultimately choosing yourself.
Built around bright guitar textures, jangly riffs, and soaring melodies, “Better Off Alone” draws heavily on the energetic sound of the mid-2000s British guitar revival while injecting it with a modern edge.
The lyrics chart the emotional journey from disappointment to self-belief, summarized perfectly by the unapologetic line: “I don’t need your approval honey / Nor do I need your sympathy.”
Future Radio frontman Johnny Late explains that the song focuses on the realization that you have been trying too hard to make a fractured dynamic work. He notes that walking away is not giving up, but rather choosing yourself.
The collaboration is designed to feel uplifting, capturing a complex mix of pain and newfound freedom, heavily bolstered by the incredible vocal energy Pedro Barbosa brought to the studio.
