“Chasing Shadows” is the new track from Johannesburg’s electro alt-rock duo, Go the Rodeo. The video for the track features classic cars, fight scenes, and nostalgic eighties scenes. The song gives a modern twist to eighties synth and drum sounds.
Corné Van Niekerk comments on “Chasing Shadows”
“Chasing Shadows was born from a desire to reproduce the classic sounds of the eighties, and bring Go the Rodeo’s sound into those spheres. The lyrics revolve around the insecurities of being alone, and the fear of feeling incomplete when you don’t find the correct person. I’ve wasted a lot of time and energy pursuing that idea, and ultimately pursuing the wrong person. Looking back now, I realize that I was chasing shadows.”

The Go The Rodeo Lead Vocalist also gives an insight into the video:
“We wanted to have simple story line, and keep it authentic to the eighties theme. Rally Sport Motors in Johannesburg were very kind in letting us borrow their space and vintage cars. We used that to create a fight scene that seems to happen inside an arcade game.”
“KLS Media helped us by fleshing out the idea, filming, and editing the video, and we were quite pleased with the results.”

Their sound is a unique blend of indie rock, pop, and rock influences, with electronic elements inspired by the likes of Twenty One Pilots, Queens of the Stone Age, The Strokes, Tame Impala, Enter Shikari, and Bring me the Horizon.
Go the Rodeo has performed various South African shows and festivals, as well as the local morning show, Expresso, and a youth show, Hectic Nine 9. They have also opened for international acts, Our Last Night, Hands Like Houses & Secrets.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Go the Rodeo had to take a step back, as both members had started to focus
on their own businesses.
Corne had chosen to take this time to refine their release plans and write new material
“It was refreshing to be able to take my time on songs, and not feel the pressure of having to release as soon as possible. I made sure that I was happy with every aspect of the song before we release anything.”
