Renowned local musician and songwriter Josh Klynsmith embarks on an exciting new chapter with the release of his debut solo single, “Rescue Me,” now available on all digital streaming platforms.

Best known as the drummer for Gangs of Ballet and currently performing with Matthew Mole, Josh Klynsmith is now stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist, songwriter, and producer.

“Rescue Me” is a deeply personal track that has been years in the making, evolving through different stages of his life before culminating in an emotive and dynamic production.

“This song means a lot to me,” says Josh. “I wrote the verses a few years ago while living in Sri Lanka, but I struggled to find the right chorus. It wasn’t until I moved back to South Africa that it finally came to me—of all places, in the shower! So, this song comes from two very different phases of my life.”

The journey to completing “Rescue Me” was one of persistence and dedication. “Some songs come together effortlessly, but this one took time. It was a real labor of love,” Josh Klynsmith shares. “I lost count of how many times I broke it down and rebuilt it, but the moment I wrote the last word, I felt an immense sense of achievement—even though I still had the challenge of recording and producing ahead of me.”

That process became more manageable with the support of his close friend and collaborator Matthew Mole, who co-produced the track.

“Having Matt by my side was incredible,” says Josh Klynsmith. “When you’re doing everything yourself, it’s easy to lose perspective, so his input was invaluable.”

Josh recorded the vocals at Chapel Lane Studio in the UK, where Brendyn Rossouw handled the mixing, and worked with Tristan Carmichael to refine the final vocal performance.

After years in the industry as a drummer, Josh Klynsmith is embracing the excitement of forging his own path as a solo artist

“I’ll always be a drummer, but writing and releasing my own music is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” he says. “I don’t know exactly where this journey will lead, but I’m excited for what’s ahead.”

“Rescue Me” is just the beginning. More than just a debut single, it highlights Josh Klynsmith’s depth as a songwriter and producer, blending heartfelt lyrics with rich instrumentation to capture the essence of seeking hope in uncertain times.
