Today sees the release of a brand new song from Pedro Barbosa, entitled ‘Runaway’. ‘Runaway’ comes after the release of Pedro’s previous single, “Es Mi Vida” in December 2023.
Written in 2023, the song was inspired by the feeling experienced in a relationship when you love someone, but you are not sure it will work out. You want to cut your losses due to differences and insecurities, but yet – you stay because you like the attention, so the thought of leaving only lives in your imagination.
Like most of Pedro’s previous offerings, the single was once again recorded and produced with longtime collaborator, Mark Beling. Mark did the arrangements for the song, and focussed to bring out the emotional emphasis of Pedro’s vocal range.

“’Runaway’ is a sad love song about trying to find the good in something that went wrong. We tend to get quite negative in relationships when something goes wrong, and I wanted to reflect and evoke those feelings in the song.”
The video for ‘Runaway’ is a stop motion animation by Shenka Doherty. Pedro has known Shenka for many years, and after seeing some of her incredible art on her TikTok account, he asked her to create a video for ‘Runaway’ and gave her full freedom with the concept and creation of the video.
The video took her four months, working on it daily, to complete during June to September 2023, with Shenka producing, directing and shooting the video.
For the concept, she didn’t want to create a relationship cliché, so she focussed on the paper plane representing the role of a woman throughout the video.
She started the video creation process with a script idea, then divided everything into scenes, followed by painting each scene and creating characters, and the shooting of it. For every movement there is one photograph edited to lip sync, and the scenes edited together comprising of a total of 3500 pictures she worked with.

“Some say that this song is the follow-up to ‘Crazy Love Is’. It would be wonderful if people can relate to ‘Runaway’ as much as they related to ‘Crazy Love Is’. I wrote it for everyone who has ever felt stuck in love, not knowing which way to move forward.”
