On Thursday, 28 March 2024 Richard Stirton released a brand new song, entitled “Long Gone”. The heart-wrenching offering is the third glimpse into his brand new EP set for release later this year. The song comes after the release of ‘Rough Justice’ in 2023, and ‘Cold On Me’ in January 2024.
“Long Gone” was originally written in March 2023. At the time, Richard Stirton was experiencing a turning point in terms of his writing perspective which influenced the sound and writing style of the songs on his new body of work.
Once again recorded with Jack Bowdenat his studio in Devon, the inspiration for “Long Gone” is the idea of living through divorce, and the daily struggle to keep the love alive with a person who is no longer who they were when the love began.
The small reminders in the mundane of the little things that once were. The processing that the love is “Long Gone”, but appreciating the beauty it once brought.
With a simple production compared to his previous releases, Richard Stirton describes the song as not only the most raw and honest vocal delivery he has ever performed, but also the best song he has ever written.
Together with Jack, they wanted to place the focus on the raw and honest vocals delivering a message over keys, with some distant percussive and string elements.

“I wanted the lyrics to take the listener on a journey of emotion, sadness, nostalgia and closure so that anyone who has been through heartbreak, could identify with the message of the song. It’s an honest, raw interpretation of what it means for a marriage to fall apart and watch a family unit disintegrate.”
