Tuks FM 350x343 Tuks FM 107.2 Attempts World Record for the Longest Radio ShowGreat news! Pretoria-based Community station Tuks FM 107.2 is attempting the World Record for the Longest Radio Show. The current World Record is standing at 74 hours and 3 minutes and was set by a UK DJ earlier this year.

Alex Caige and Cassy Clarke (from the Bang Bang Breakfast show) will be settling in to Hatfield Square this coming weekend for the attempt.  The action starts on Friday the 15th of March and Tuks FM 107.2 hopes to stretch it to the 18th of March 2013.  The record is for the longest time to act as a DJ or a continuity announcer during a live radio broadcast.

Tuks FM 107.2 normally broadcasts from the University of Pretoria and is known for producing some of the best talent in the South African media industry, including Gareth Cliff, Liezel van der Westhuizen, Rob Forbes, Kim Schultze and Anele Madoda. The station started broadcasting in 1981.

The Tuks FM 107.2 duo attempting the world record have spent the last month putting together an awesome program that will include a celebration around St Patrick’s Day, a tie in with Idols, chats with former members of the Tuks FM 107.2 crew and visits by some of the leading bands and musicians in the SA Music industry. Both DJs hope to attempt this record again in 2014, even if it means challenging their own best.

The attempt is sponsored by Bioplus and their array of products should be just the thing that the duo needs to make it through the weekend. Tune in to 107.2 FM over this weekend and listen to some great music and to Alex Caige and Cassy Clarke attempting what could be a successful attempt for the World Record for the Longest Radio Show.

Tuks FM 107.2 recently strengthened their signal to 1 KW, so all you Joburgers can listen too. And if you live outside Gauteng: Tuks FM 107.2′s website was recently redone and features online streaming, so you don’t have an excuse.

You can follow @TuksFM1072, @AlexCaige and @cassy_clarke on Twitter for updates throughout the weekend. The official hashtag for the World Record for the Longest Radio Show is #TuksFMRecord.

I know that I’ll be showing my support for Alex Caige and Cassie Clarke this weekend and you should too.  Watch this space for regular updates in the Events category on Running Wolf’s Rant.

083.john cleese John Cleese Coming to South Africa in June 2013Great news for fans of stand-up comedy! John Cleese is returning to South Africa in June 2013 to perform in Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.

John Cleese returns to South Africa after the sold out success of his 2011 tour. He’ll perform at the Feather Market in Port Elizabeth on the 15th and 16th of June, at the Cape Town International Convention Center on the 18th and 19th June,  at the Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg on the 21th, 222nd and 23rd June and at the ICC in Durban on the 26th of June.  John Cleese Live is Another Big Concerts Experience and is presented by Algoa FM, 567 Cape Talk, Talk Radio 702, East Coast Radio and SABC 3.

Cleese is best known for his idiosyncratic turns in Monty Python’s Flying Circus and Fawlty Towers and  will once again bring his unique comedy perspective to audiences across South Africa. John Cleese really has done it all and is now taking the time to tell audiences about his jam-packed life.

The show will be split into two halves. The first will be a conversation session hosted by local radio celebrity John Maytham from 567 CapeTalk, who will be chatting to John Cleese in more detail about life up to and including his Monty Python career. And, the second half will be John talking about Fawlty Towers, A Fish Called Wanda and other controversial and hilarious matters as well as answering questions from the audience.

John Cleese has achieved a lot in his career. He started as a sketch writer for BBC Radio’s Dick Emery Show and then The Frost Report. After this stardom beckoned and Monty Python was created – he co-wrote and starred in four series and three films. He went on to achieve further great success as the neurotic hotel manager Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers (which he co-wrote with his then wife Connie Booth).

After huge UK success John Cleese went on to crack the USA with A Fish Called Wanda (which he wrote and starred in with Jamie Lee Curtis). The late 1990′s saw the unstoppable Mr Cleese appear in the James Bond movie The World is not Enough and later Die Another Day. His latest film role was none other than the ‘The Guv’ in the popular South African film Spud.

If you didn’t manage to catch john Cleese last time, now’s your chance. For those who did… prepare to be entertained all over again with his hugely successful show ‘John Cleese Live’. Tickets are available via Computicket.
