BARK is one of the coolest acts who have been pretty active in the SA Music scene over the last few year. Bark’s remarkable musicianship, melodic phrasing, piercing lyrics and topical songwriting deserves to be wired into the stereos of all listeners. They are essentially a rock band at heart but remain a versatile trio.
Lead guitarist and vocalist Emile Swiegers (who you might know from Die Tuindwergies) also performs as a solo artist (playing his acoustic-fingerstyle compositions) Franco Schoeman (who you might know from ISO) is a Jazz musician who is also a member of ISO and currently studying for his masters degree in music composition at Wits University and Jean Swiegers (who was also in Die Tuindwergies) is a progressive Rock / Jazz drummer whose solid rhythms always keep things upbeat and interesting. Together they are an explosive force to be reckoned with, ready for the big stage.
I recently had a chat to BARK about their upcoming performance at Park Acoustics and a few other things. This is what they had to say:
When you think of Park Acoustics, what comes to mind?
Henk and Willie. Lekker ouens!
What are you currently working on?
We are working on our debut album and it’s coming along just great. Will be releasing our first single soon! Keep an eye out.
If you could colab with a legendary SA artist, who would that be and why?
I’ve been a big fan of Mango Groove since I can remember. Together they wrote great songs and rid South Africans of a lot of negativity.
What is your favorite quote about rock music?
Maybe I just haven’t found the right one yet, because most of them seem way too egotistical. I’d rather not pick one at this point in time.
What can music fans expect from your performance at Park Acoustics?
Assuming that some of the audience members will be seeing Bark for the first time, they can expect a truly once off experience. Our music is multi-dimensional and there certainly is something for every individual to enjoy.
