Child prodigy Andrew Sutton has released the music video for his latest single, “Broke”. This song was released earlier this year, and is Andrew’s fifth offering to fans nationwide. Now 19 years old, he released his first single, “One More Chance” at the age of 16, and “Stargazing”, “Hands Up” and “Lost Hearts” soon followed.
“Broke” was written at the end of 2019 and was one of those songs which just naturally happened. Andrew Sutton came up with the guitar riff one night when he was going to bed and once he started working on it, he decided to write a relatable song.

The music video was shot in March 2020, with an early 3:30 AM start to catch sunrise by 5 AM at the Durban Yact Basin. The video was shot by Greg Wright and Shaun Silver. The storyline features a humble deck hand, scrubbing a yacht. The owner gives him the keys, thinking he’s going to spend the day cleaning the yacht, but as soon as the owner has left, the deck hand invites a whole bunch of mates over for a cruise! After a relaxing and fun day at sea, the youngsters dock the boat and sneak off just in time as the owner comes to pick up his keys.
Andrew Sutton comments on the making of the music video
“For an expected relaxing day, it was one of the more stressful days of my life! The right motor of the boat wouldn’t start. Our photographer’s car was parked in. I had done most of the planning and organising, and so it was pretty stressful making sure it all came together. But once it was all over, I realised what an exciting day it had been and I found it a great learning experience.”
With some fun footage of Andrew and his friends having a good time together, the video sums up the theme of the song perfectly: “We’re broke but we’re living, we’re broke but we’re living!” Andrew describes the video as a bit of a daydream – not everyone gets a chance to spend a sunny day on a yacht off the coast of Durban.
