Asila release debut music video and single

Post Summary: South African alternative rock band Asila has partnered with TITE Productions for the music video of their debut single "Resistance" from their upcoming album Acid Rain. The band, formerly known as Revery, changed their name to reflect their evolved sound, blending modern alternative rock with soulful R'n'B vocals and influences ranging from Aretha Franklin to Muse. The video, shot in a Sandton warehouse, features a Film Noir inspired narrative with clever cinematography techniques.

Great news! South African female fronted alternative rock band Asila have teamed up with TITE Productions for the music video for their first single, “Resistance”. The song is taken from their forthcoming album, Acid Rain (which is set for release later this year).

More info about Asila

After recording the album Firebird under the name Revery in 2016, the band felt a name change was necessary to represent the change of sound and change of direction. Firebird was an album of growth, experimentation and self-discovery, with the songs written over many years and many band member changes.

Asila

With a solid line up finally, and solid sound the name Asila was chosen. The sound is more defined in the genre of modern alternative rock with big distorted guitars and massive, hard hitting drums. Soulful, R’n’B inspired vocals are at the forefront with layers of harmonies adding to the depth of the sound. Influences range from Aretha Franklin to Evanescence, from Queen to Muse.

The video was shot in a warehouse in Sandton, picked to suit the industrial underground theme of the narrative – a Guy Ritchie / Tarantino inspired illicit poker game involving whiskey, multiple layers of betrayal, a garrotting and miscellaneous gore. Several pallets of suspicious white powder (calcium) formed the perfect backdrop for the Film Noir spectacle.

Different shooting approaches were taken to establish the characters’ differing positions in the narrative. Slow motion and real time footage clash in the performance sections. Steady flying shots and shaky handheld footage delineates the main protagonist from her victims. Check out the video below:
