Renowned South African multi-instrumentalist Guy Buttery is set to unveil Orchestrations on February 20, 2025.

This breathtaking album, described as his “magnum opus,” is the culmination of over a decade of meticulous crafting, global collaborations, and artistic exploration. It will be available on all major streaming platforms and select physical formats.

More Info About Guy Buttery’s Orchestrations

The journey of Orchestrations began in 2012 when Buttery performed three of his compositions with the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra. The experience sparked a 12-year exploration of orchestral composition, blending his signature guitar work with expansive arrangements by Chris Letcher.

This 14-track album is a rich tapestry of global influences and collaborations, featuring contributions from artists such as Kaki King (New York), Derek Gripper (Cape Town), Julian Sartorius (Berne), Madala Kunene (Durban), and Mudassir Khan (New Delhi). Recorded across ten countries, Orchestrations reflects Buttery’s relentless curiosity and attention to detail.

Opening with the evocative “Two Chords and the Truth,” the album showcases Buttery’s ability to create intricate soundscapes, layering textures with hypnotic rises and falls. Each track reveals a deep narrative, balancing complexity with intimacy to deliver a profound listening experience.

“This album has been an act of both madness and love,” says Buttery. “The process of refinement is often romanticized, but it’s a journey of both elation and drudgery. Returning to these compositions again and again has been transformative.”

More info about Guy Buttery

Known for his genre-defying artistry, Buttery’s work bridges traditional South African sounds with global influences. A recipient of numerous accolades, including the Standard Bank Young Artist Award (the first given outside the classical genre), Buttery continues to push the boundaries of musical storytelling.

From intimate house concerts to performances at New York’s Lincoln Center, his music resonates worldwide.

A Personal Touch

In celebration of Orchestrations, Buttery is launching an environmental initiative to plant indigenous trees and remove invasive species from a local riverbed. Supporters can contribute to this project via his Bandcamp page.

Prepare to be captivated by Orchestrations — an album that weaves global artistry, lush orchestration, and Guy Buttery’s unparalleled musical vision into a transformative sonic experience.
