Through her creative project Khazimula, Carol-Ann Meltzer has just released a new single and music video, ‘On a Dream,’ a gentle reminder that every great achievement starts as an idea before the path to get there is ever clear.
In a world that often feels pulled apart at the seams, this South African songwriter is offering something different – a call to hope.

‘On a Dream’ is sung by Megan Marks and produced by well-known South African musician Mark Beling of Mean Mr Mustard. Together they’ve crafted a sound that merges cinematic pop with the warmth of adult contemporary songwriting, resulting in a track that meditates on hope, human connection, and the bravery it takes to imagine a better future.
At its core, the song explores the gap between where we are and where we could be – encouraging listeners to trust their own path forward and to embrace whatever makes their personal story unique.
Meltzer describes the track as a meditation on faith in the unseen: trusting in possibilities before there’s proof they’ll come true, staying receptive to growth, and remembering that any journey worth taking starts with a vision of something greater.
The Story Behind Khazimula
‘On a Dream’ is the second single to come out of Khazimula, an ongoing creative project from Meltzer that weaves together music, poetry, storytelling, personal reflection, and plans for future community-focused initiatives.
The name itself comes from the isiZulu word for “to shine” or “to radiate light” – chosen because it captured exactly what Meltzer wanted the project to stand for: discovery, connection, and growth.
Though rooted in Meltzer’s own experiences, the song’s message reaches well past any single genre or audience. Its focus on unity and shared humanity invites listeners to picture a world where differences are welcomed rather than feared, and where connecting with one another takes priority.
Musically, Marks’ emotive vocal delivery gives the song its heart, while Beling’s production keeps things intimate without losing scale – striking a balance that lets the song’s message land with clarity and warmth.
Carol-Ann Meltzer’s Journey
Meltzer’s path to this release goes back years, built on notebooks filled with lyrics, melodies recorded onto an old dictaphone, and a steady belief that stories have the power to bring people closer together.
Music has been part of her life since she was a child – from school productions to time spent at the Performing Arts Workshop in Hillbrow, Johannesburg.
Over the years, she gathered an archive of melodies and lyrical ideas, which eventually became the basis for Love It Together, a collection of twenty-four original songs she developed alongside arranger and producer Bryan Schimmel. She later added formal training to her craft, completing coursework in lyric writing through Berklee College of Music.
A turning point came when her longtime friend Neil Solomon introduced her to Mark Beling. Along that same road, she partnered with songwriter and vocal coach Anne Steyn, who co-wrote the song ‘Tomorrow’ and shaped the first arrangement of ‘On a Dream.’ Megan Marks eventually joined the project as well, lending her voice to bring Meltzer’s songs to life.

The Name “Khazimula” and Its Meaning
The word Khazimula found Meltzer almost by accident – during a visit to the SAMRO offices while she was searching for a stage name.
As soon as she heard it, its meaning of “shining” or “radiating light” clicked with the vision she’d been carrying: one built around hope, possibility, colour, and the idea that everyone carries their own unique light.
Khazimula continues to grow beyond this single release, with an expanding catalogue of original music, curated playlists, personal reflections, and upcoming publishing projects all in the works. Everything ties back to one simple invitation at the heart of the project: Let Your Colours Shine!
