London indie rock band Plastic Barricades is back with a new single “Second-hand Dreams”. This is the third introduction to the upcoming third album We Stayed Indoors (which will be released later in this year).
“Second-hand Dreams” explores the world where we are always on a cusp of a better life, but never quite there. Overwhelmed and overworked, we are drowning in an endless ocean of distractions and superficial communication, trying to impress people we don’t actually like.
Our thoughts and actions are being regulated and limited and we are afraid of taking risks and breaking free from the confines of conformity. We live someone else’s dreams, which are moulded by corporations and their relentless ad agencies. Can we escape this never-ending rat race and find solace in discovering our own authentic path?
The single comes accompanied by a quirky music video made using the latest developments in AI-assisted text-to-video algorithms. Produced by the band’s art director Elina Pasok, the video invites you on a quest through the office cubicles and winding corridors in search of a dream that’s truly yours.

We Stayed Indoors will be Plastic Barricades’ third full-length album, taking on the tricky subjects of hope, mental health, doubts, living in the moment, courage, perception change, regrets about the past and worries about the future.
The new album was recorded in collaboration with Sheffield-based drummer Chris Barber and Berlin-based singer Aellie Koto, as well as singer-songwriters Luke Joyce (Harsh Winters from Edinburgh) and John Sibley (Victory Kicks from London). Tom Hill (Modern Rituals; Muttering) worked his magic on the mixes at the Bookhouse Studios and long-time collaborator Andy “Hippie” Baldwin (Blur, Oasis, Interpol) sprinkled the sonic dust of mastering at Metropolis Studios.

Plastic Barricades is a faithful moniker of London-based singer-songwriter Dan Kert and his ever-changing troupe of collaborators. Mechanics of Life (2017) and Self-Theories (2020) form the current studio catalogue, with We Stayed Indoors scheduled to follow later in 2023.
