Durban Female DJ Rosetta D33p is new to the music scene, but there is nothing amateur about this female rising star. Since learning to DJ at the DJ and Music Production Institute in Johannesburg in March 2022, she has gone on to win the Shaya Ingoma Smirnoff Contest propelling her to Ibiza.  Booking herself at the most elite events in South Africa, Rosetta D33p returned to her home province to perform at the prestigious Durban July.

An artist passionate about supporting other women in the industry, Rosetta D33p entered the Shaya Ingoma Smirnoff Contest which calls on all up-and-coming female DJs nationwide to enter. Rosetta won this nationwide competition by a whopping 111 890 public votes.

Rosetta D33p received many awesome prizes along with an incredible accolade. The votes she received had her winning an R100 000 cash prize; a three-month residency with a national radio station to the value of R430 000; a curated Spotify playlist; one month of PR management and profiling; featuring at Smirnoff 1818 and Shaya Ingoma music events in 2022 and the best prize yet – a trip to the unmissable International Music Summit (IMS) in Ibiza Spain.
The International Music Summit is a comprehensive three-day event featuring a diverse line-up uniting established names with emerging trailblazers. Through educational, inspirational and motivational keynotes, interviews, panels, and technology master classes. DJ Rosetta D333p not only attended the IMS (International Music Summit) but also had the privilege to perform at Ibiza Corsa beach hotel.
Here she was given the opportunity to network and mingle with the best in the global music industry. The perfect combination of prizes to give any artist the perfect boost they would need to truly make it in the music scene. She has shared the stage with Godfathers of Deep House SA, Dj Zinhle, Culoe the Song, DJ Cndo, DJ Happy Girl, DJ Tira, Oscar Mbo, Master KG, DJ Merlon and many more
Aligning with Rosetta D33p’s mission, Shaya Ingoma, Smirnoff 1818 aims to narrow the gender gap and shine a light on some talented upcoming female DJs. This empowerment platform focuses on unearthing, promoting and offering multiple opportunities for upcoming female DJs in Mzansi to showcase their skills, get the recognition they deserve, and receive sufficient support in the pursuit of their DJing career aspirations.
Winning this competition, and embarking on this journey to Ibiza, seems like a date with destiny for the female DJ passionate about empowering and supporting other female DJs and the development of her career.

Rosetta D33p comments

“We still have too many female DJs not getting enough training and mentorship to sharpen their skills. [There should be more] programs and campaigns from government and the industry to push female DJs to pursue what they love.”
The Durban DJ grew up in an under-resourced township called Clermont Rosetta explains that she grew up in a community where opportunities were few and far between, but it was her love of music that led her to become a DJ. She is now setting flames to the music industry despite growing up in a community where there are very few success stories.
Rosetta D33p has big plans to elevate her career and take it to the next level by pursuing the development of skills in production by again teaming up with the DJ and Music Production Institute. With plans to release music of her own, she believes that women have a lot to offer in terms of producing their music.
Watch the video below (which features Rosetta D33p telling her story) below:

Rosetta D33p has big plans for the future

“I have ventured into production and would love to create a project from start to finish as a female producer, master the song, and complete it on my own. Drawing inspiration from South African success stories like DJ Zinhle and Black Coffee with dreams to collaborate with in the future. I will always be grateful for studying DJ at DJ and Music Institute because it opened up so many doors for my dreams to come through.”

Elster Pieterse from DJ and Music Institute comments

“An inspiring story to say the least, we are proud of Rosetta’s achievements after completing her course with us. I believe her journey is just starting.”
