The Hives, globally renowned as one of the most electrifying live bands, have just released their latest single, “Paint A Picture”.

Known for their wild performances and raw rock energy, the Swedish icons are back with a high-octane anthem that previews their forthcoming album.

“Paint A Picture” is taken from their upcoming seventh album, The Hives Forever Forever The Hives, out 29 August 2025 via Play It Again Sam.

The single arrives with a striking music video directed by Filip Nilsson and Henry Moore Selder, the team behind their breakout hit “Hate To Say I Told You So”.

The HivesThe Hives comment on “Paint A Picture”

“‘Paint A Picture’ is about trying to convince people and yourself that living outside of society is a good idea. This song has been a fan favourite for ages among the lucky few who have heard it in concert.”

About the New Album The Hives Forever Forever The Hives

This 13-track project was recorded in Sweden at YEAR0001 and Riksmixningsverket studios (the latter owned by ABBA’s Benny Andersson).

The album was produced by Pelle Gunnerfeldt with contributions from Beastie Boys’ Mike D, who hosted sessions at his Malibu studio. Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age also provided creative input.

A Legendary Career

Over the past three decades, The Hives — Howlin’ Pelle, Chris Dangerous, The Johan And Only, Nicholaus Arson, and Vigilante Carlstroem — have built a legacy as one of rock’s most thrilling acts.

Their 2000s breakthrough album Veni Vidi Vicious was named one of Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Albums of the Decade. Their anthem “Hate To Say I Told You So” was featured on Pitchfork’s Top 500 Songs of the 2000s.

They’ve performed with legends like The Rolling Stones and AC/DC, earned widespread acclaim from The New York Times, BBC, and Stereogum, and sold out arenas around the world. With Platinum-certified albums and multiple major awards to their name, The Hives continue to define and defy the sound of modern rock.

As The Clash‘s Joe Strummer once said: “The Hives saved rock ‘n’ roll.”
