Chantal Stanfield and legendary producer RJ Benjamin have joined forces once again to deliver a cheeky, funk-inspired, and undeniably upbeat love song.
Titled “My Favourite Ice-Cream”, this bubbly summer anthem reflects on love that inspires and celebrates, even featuring a flavor-filled rap break. Stanfield brings her clever writing and a catchy hook to the table, while Benjamin creates an instantly infectious sound that is absolutely perfect for the sunny season.
A Fantastical Musical Journey
“My Favourite Ice-Cream” reveals a fantastical side to Stanfield’s artistic prowess as a vocalist and songwriter. The release aligns with her celebration of 21 years in the entertainment industry, reminding listeners that she is much more than the familiar face seen every night on SABC 2’s Paradys, where she stars as Natasha Malgas.
Alongside her, RJ Benjamin, a true stalwart of the music industry, effortlessly produces a cohesive, light, and fun track. The song’s production was made possible in part by a grant from the SAMRO Music Creation Support Fund.
Spontaneous Summer Visuals
The concept for the music video has always lived side-by-side with the song in Stanfield’s mind. Directed and filmed by the incredibly creative Rici Martens on a chilly July Sunday morning in Johannesburg, the video features Stanfield serving soft-serve from a traditional ice-cream truck.
The visual narrative showcases various beautiful interactions of love – including a retired couple, a middle-aged gay couple with an adorable dog, and a young family.
Adding a touch of spontaneous magic, a group of random suburbanites driving past the shoot jokingly asked for ice cream, and their genuine enjoyment was captured in an unplanned appearance in the final cut.
