Jacaranda FM and SPAR have proudly produced an annual Christmas spectacle that features some of South Africa’s most prominent musicians for 21 years – with out skipping a single year to celebrate.
On 6 December the SPAR Carols by Candlelight event took place in Pretoria at the SunBet Arena Time Square during a live performance, whilst the concert was also streamed across the world for those who wanted to watch the soul-stirring concert with their families at home.
7 000 people joined the live event whilst 70 000 streamers from as far away as USA, Netherlands, Botswana, and United Arab Emirates also joined the unique festivities.
R500 000 was raised through digital donations and concert tickets proceeds – breaking all previous years’ collections for Jacaranda FM and SPAR. This years’ theme – HOME FOR CHRISTMAS – pays homage to those who travel and come together to share in the spirit of Christmas through music that cannot be heard anywhere else in the world.

“What a magical collaboration! To be transported through music and familiar carols sung in a way never heard before – is a very special thing to do – and we do it with the help of our world-class musicians. As we celebrate 21 years of this event, we also pay homage to those children who need Christmas cheer in the form of their very own Santa Shoe box – we feel incredible privileged evoke the spirit of giving as well.”
SPAR and Jacaranda FM asked fans to express their generosity and donate towards Santa’s Shoebox so that over 1 000 children’s homes in Gauteng receive their gift this Christmas. All donations and ticket proceeds ensured that Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels team can gift vulnerable children across South Africa news toys of their own.
