Shortstraw have released their new album and a music video for “Bikini Weather”. To refresh your memory, they are a band from Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa.
I vaguely remember seeing them at the first Park Acoustics event I attended back in February 2011. I must admit that I did not know anything about them at the time and I did not really pay attention to their set.
Almost two and a half years later and I’ve turned into one of the biggest Shortstraw fans on the planet
These blokes had a rollercoaster of a year in 2012 and have picked up the pace in 2013 as well. They’ve blown away crowds at venues and festivals all around the country.
Their performances at Park Acoustics and RAMFest earlier this year and their performance at 5 Gum Experience in Johannesburg on Friday completely amazed crowds and will most probably cause an increase their fan base (if it has not done so already). They’ve also won the MK Award for Best Indie (much to their own surprise) this year.

Today Shortstraw released their second studio album entitled “Good Morning, Sunshine!” online. The great thing about this is that you can download it for whatever price you want to pay for it on their Bandcamp page. Pretty schweet if you ask me. I don’t know about you, but I’m doing just that as soon as I sort out the mess that is my Internet Banking (don’t ask, it’s a long story).
Last week the band released a video for their song “Bikini Weather”
This song happens to be one of my favorite songs by them and without a doubt carries over the “we don’t give a damn” / care free attitude that Shortstraw have. The song is more catchy than most songs that you hear on the radio nowadays. Check out the video for the song below and you’ll see and hear what I mean
It’s a pity that the majority of the female population won’t be wearing bikinis this coming winter season. “Bikini Weather” makes me wish that they were though (thanks Shortstraw). I’m pretty sure that if you watched the video and heard the song that you’ll be in a good mood now (otherwise you might not be human).
You have my two cents about Shortstraw and this video. Now it’s your turn. Comment on this article and let me know what you think. Feedback is appreciated and welcome here.
If you’re one of those good-mooded folks who enjoyed the song and the video, spread the word about Shortstraw by sharing it with your friends on Facebook and Twitter. Sharing is caring after all.
