The South African alternative rock band Snowing Down South is back, making waves with their first single after a nine-year hiatus. The single was released earlier this month.

Known for blending American and British rock influences into their own raw, distinctive sound, Snowing Down South dominated the campus rock scene in the early 2010s.

Their single, “It’s Not Your Fault,” held the number one spot on Tuks FM for nearly two months, securing their place as a force in the alternative music scene. Now, after a long break, the band is set to release a new single, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for their fans and alternative rock lovers alike.

Reformed in 2023, the band’s reunion was sparked by a spontaneous late-night session listening to their old recordings.

This revival has brought a refreshed Snowing Down South, now working hard on their upcoming EP, No Such Place as Far Away. The new single, written over a decade ago, will be the first glimpse into their evolved sound.

Reflecting on the track’s origins, the band shares: “The song was written 10 years ago after a long period of isolation, inspired by an intense longing for someone who might not even exist. Bruce Springsteen was definitely on our minds while writing it,” they said.

Dusty, atmospheric, and dreamlike, the single doesn’t convey a direct message but instead provides an introspective look into the feeling of spending too much time in one’s own head.

The band explains, “It’s more of an observation on the kind of limbo we tend to find ourselves in when we overthink.”

The recording journey for the new single was as unconventional as the band’s own path. Self-produced by drummer Simeon Kriel, Snowing Down South spent six months traveling across South Africa, recording along the way.

This mobile approach infused the track with a unique rawness and authenticity, merging their signature dusty sound with refined production touches.

With a style that’s been described as dusty, atmospheric, and dreamlike, Snowing Down South’s new single captures the essence of longing and the lingering effects of isolation in a way only they can.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering them for the first time, their return is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Stay tuned for the release of their forthcoming EP, No Such Place as Far Away, and get ready to hear Snowing Down South back where they belong: dominating the airwaves.
