South African producers Teemza and Tumi Musiq have joined forces to deliver their latest single, “Chelete”, featuring the emotive vocals of Mogomotsi Chosen.
Known for their contributions to the Private School Amapiano movement, the duo merges their unique sounds into a track that is both sonically rich and socially resonant.
Teemza’s Rising Profile in Amapiano
Tshiamo Malele, known professionally as Teemza, is a fast-rising producer and DJ from Soweto. Renowned for his mellow textures and use of live instrumentation, Teemza has built a loyal fanbase with standout releases such as “Abangani”, “Ghost”, and “I.S.G.A.X.A”.
Since signing with Universal Music Group in 2023, he has become one of the soulful voices shaping the next wave of Amapiano.
A Fusion of Amapiano and Classic House
“Chelete” leans into the soul-rooted characteristics of Private School Amapiano while incorporating classic house influences.
The result is a smooth, groove-heavy production featuring layered instrumentation and a strong rhythmic core—making it both club-ready and emotionally engaging.
Exploring Love and Money Through Lyrics
The track confronts a subject that resonates with many: the tension between genuine affection and financial expectation in modern relationships. Its central question, “Do you want me, or do you want my money?”, gives voice to the emotional conflict of being valued only for material worth. It’s a reflection of ongoing cultural debates surrounding romance, finances, and social expectations.
A Bold, Relevant Offering for the Genre
“Chelete” is more than just a dance track—it’s a timely and thought-provoking conversation set against the backdrop of one of South Africa’s most dynamic genres.
With their combined musicality and storytelling, Teemza and Tumi Musiq cement their role as leaders in the Amapiano space. Mogomotsi Chosen’s heartfelt vocal performance brings an added depth, making this release a standout moment for all three artists.
