After a busy start to the year, Cece Vee returns to the airwaves with a thrilling Y2K-inspired track that celebrates running away from those who don’t value you. Featuring driving pop punk basslines mixed with melodic synths and catchy hooks, “Just Friends” serves as the quintessential soundtrack to getting over your one-sided crush.
After the recent success of ‘Sucker’ reaching number 1 on the Jacaranda SA Top 10 radio chart, as well as a SAMA nomination for Artist of the Year and multiple placements on Spotify’s GLOW editorial playlist (1M+ listeners), Cece dropped the new track, which stays true to Vee’s alternative-pop roots while also bordering on pop punk, adding something fresh and versatile to her growing catalog of songs.

More info about Cece Vee’s “Just Friends”
“Just Friends” is an alt-pop track reminiscent of the infectious soundtracks of early 2000s teen movies but with a modern flair.
“Just Friends” explores the bittersweet journey of harboring unrequited feelings for a friend, only for them to eventually realize their regret once you’ve moved on. As the tables turn, the track embodies the empowering sensation of liberation from those who fail to recognize your true value.
“Once you realize that they could never truly care for you like you did for them, it’s a cathartic feeling to move on from someone who doesn’t see your worth,” Cece says. “This song was so much fun to record and my favourite part was getting to do my best ‘Mean Girls’ voice to record the spoken background vocal line of, ‘Like, we’re only just friends.’”
There is also a visualizer to accompany the release which features a dynamic animated version of the cover artwork, brought to life with fragments of the lyrics being etched and scribbled around the central image, evoking the raw intimacy of a notebook journal.
Cece Vee has made a significant mark in the music industry in the few years since she has been active. Since her debut, she has been building a steady global fanbase with international playlist, licensing and sync placements, and her impact continues to grow at a steady measured pace with each new release.
With her growing presence and success, the future looks bright, and “Just Friends” is a track that continues to cement her ever-evolving alt-pop prowess.
