Die Heuwels Fantasties is an up an coming electronic Afrikaans band. I’ve listened through their whole self-titled album and I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m addicted to this song. Maybe it’s because it’s in my native tongue, Afrikaans, but who knows. I’m not a huge fan of Afrikaans love songs, but this one is definately one of the best ones that I’ve heard in a long time.
Leja definately has potential to become one of those songs that has the ability to get stuck in your head (but in a good way). Die Heuwels Fantasties hail from the Western Cape in South Africa. The band is made up out of Hunter Kennedy (also in Fokofpolisiekar), Pierre Greeff (of Lukraaketaar fame) and Johnny de Ridder (also in Fokofpolisiekar).
Their self-titled album was released earlier in 2009. The album features contributions by Francois Van Coke (of Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel fame), Laudo Liebenberg (the voice of the band aKING), Adriaan Brand (from Springbok Nude Girls) and Neil Basson (from Afrikaans band Foto Na Dans). Die Heuwels Fantasties translates into English as “The Hills Fantastic”.
Die Heuwels Fantasties first released 2 singles as free downloads. The tracks reached number 1 on various Campus Radio stations in South Africa. The band’s first music video, Vinger Alleen was number 1 for 3 weeks on the MK music channel. It also earned Die Heuwels Fantasties a nomination for Best Video at the MK Awards earlier in 2009. This generated massive hype for a full album to be released and resulted in getting them a fanbase of thousands before even having released an album. I take off my hat to these guys, for being original and once again blessing us with such great music. Hoping to see you perform live at my 11th Oppikoppi this coming weekend.
The video for this song was filmed in an around my home city, Pretoria. This is the video for the song, followed by the lyrics
