In case you did not know, Dune Rats are an Australian Rock band. They have been around for more than a decade. There’s probably a lot that you don’t know about this band, but today my aim is to change that.

Here are 15 Interesting Facts You Might Not Know About Dune Rats

1. The band was formed as a duo in 2010 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

2. Danny Beus, BC Michaels and Brett Jansch are the current members of the band.

3. To date Dune Rats have released 5 studio albums: Dune Rats (in 2014), The Kids Will Know It’s Bullshit (2017), Hurry Up and Wait (in 2020) and Real Rare Whale (in 2022) and If It Sucks, Turn It Up (in 2024).

5. Brett Jansch is a former touring band member of Bleeding Knees Club.

6. Their 2017 album The Kids Will Know It’s Bullshit debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart in February of that year.

7. The title (The Kids Will Know It’s Bullshit) came from Courtney Taylor-Taylor, frontman of The Dandy Warhols, who told Dune Rats after the two bands played together in the United States: “Y’know, you’ve gotta write your own record … or the kids will know it’s bullshit.”

8. The Kids Will Know It’s Bullshit was produced by Zac Carper of FIDLAR, who Dune Rats chose after touring with the band. The band had to convince their label that Carper was an appropriate choice, as the label believed that it would be a waste of money and no work would be done. The band would later call Carper the “fourth official member”.

9. For their third album, Dune Rats ventured to California to collaborate with producer John Feldmann, renowned for his contributions to bands like blink-182 and 5 Seconds of Summer. The 2020 album, Hurry Up and Wait, showcased a cleaner and more polished sound compared to their previous works, without sacrificing any of their trademark frenetic energy and humor.

10. The 2016 song “Scott Green” by Dune Rats seems to be about a person named Scott Green and their association with partying and substance use. The lyrics suggest a sense of frustration or urgency in trying to find Scott Green, who appears to owe the singer money (20 dollars) and has engaged in reckless behavior. “Scott Green” is actually Aussie slang for Weed (aka Marijuana).

11. The lyrics of their song “Red Light Green Light” appear to convey a sense of defiance and a rejection of conformity. In the song the band is expressing their indifference to societal expectations and judgments. The lines “You’ll never like us cause we’re so lame” and “We’ll never like you cause you’re so vain” suggest a mutual dislike or disconnect between the narrator and those who judge them.

12. Their song “Bullshit” appears to depict a complex and tumultuous relationship in which the speaker is torn between their attraction to certain aspects of the other person and their dissatisfaction with the overall dynamics of the relationship. The repeated theme of being “messed up” and needing a hug suggests a longing for emotional support or stability.

13. Their song “Melted Into Two”‘s overall mood and lyrics evoke a sense of confusion, altered perception, and a feeling of being lost or disconnected. It appears to describe a psychedelic or surreal experience where the boundaries between reality and the mind become blurred. The song leaves room for interpretation, but it seems to capture the disorienting and often unsettling nature of such experiences.

14. Dune Rats have described their 2022 album, “Real Rare Whale,” as unequivocally their fastest, most enjoyable, and wildest record to date. This album is a testament to their deep passion for music and songwriting, featuring tracks that promise to be spectacular when performed live to enthusiastic crowds of thousands, all reveling in the sheer joy of the experience.

15. The lyrics of their 2022 song “What a Memorable Night” seems to capture the hazy, chaotic, and disorienting experience of a wild night of partying and excessive alcohol consumption.

16. The band released their 2024 album, If It Sucks, Turn It Up on the 1st of November 2024. Three singles have been released off the album, “Stoked”, “Bad Decisions” and “Party Hard”
