MOONGA K., the genre-defying artist celebrated for his electrifying sound and fearless storytelling, has released his powerful new single, “hold on!” The track offers the first taste of his upcoming country-inspired EP, OUTLAW, marking an exciting new direction in his evolving musical journey.

A Bold Blend of Genres

“hold on!” weaves together elements of funk, soul, and Americana-infused country to create a choir-driven anthem of resilience.

MOONGA K.

The track reflects MOONGA K.’s unwavering commitment to breaking musical conventions. Accompanying the single’s release was a cinematic teaser filmed at a horse ranch, hinting at the project’s reimagining of the cowboy aesthetic through a queer African lens.

A Journey Through the OUTLAW Narrative

The single captures the heart of the OUTLAW EP—a conceptual journey following MOONGA K. as a lone cowboy traversing open roads, intimate bars, and the quiet, unseen spaces of the world. The music video, filmed across South Africa and Lesotho, portrays the raw, scenic beauty of this story, mirroring MOONGA’s personal and artistic evolution.

Reclaiming Country Music

MOONGA K. describes OUTLAW as a reclamation of country music, a genre rooted in Black history but often misrepresented in mainstream narratives. With “hold on!”, he pays tribute to the legacy of Black cowboys of the 19th century while using his platform to spotlight themes of identity, courage, and self-empowerment.

A Visual and Sonic Universe

The release of “hold on!” launches an immersive visual campaign filled with striking, cowboy-inspired imagery and storytelling. This cinematic rollout sets the tone for OUTLAW, teasing the layered sonic and visual world fans can expect in the months to come.

The second single from the EP, “stole my heart”, is scheduled for release on May 16 and will delve into a heartfelt queer cowboy love story—further expanding the OUTLAW universe.
