Enter Shikari are a British Rock band from St. Albans, England. They were recently announced to headline RAMfest 2023 in South Africa and they have been around for more than 20 years.

The band’s musical style has been categorized in multiple ways, including alternative rock, electronic rock, post-hardcore, electronicore (which they are credited with pioneering), experimental rock, post-rock, and, in their early releases, metalcore and synth-metal.

There’s probably a lot that you don’t know about this band, but today my aim is to change that…

Here are 19 Interesting Facts You Might Not Know About Enter Shikari

1. The band was originally formed as Hybryd in 1999 by Rou Reynolds (on vocals and guitar), Chris Batten (on bass) and Rob Rolfe (on drums).

2. Guitarist Rory Clewlow joined the band in 2003 and they changed their name to Enter Shikari.

3. The band was named after Shikari, a boat belonging to Rou Reynolds’ uncle. In a 2011 interview, Rob Rolfe explained that: “Shikari is a Hindi word for hunter.” After the band’s line-up and name change, Reynolds focused his musical efforts on vocals and electronics instead of guitar.

4. On 4 November 2006, they became only the second unsigned band to ever sell out London Astoria. The first band to do this were The Darkness.

5. Their first single (“Mothership”) was released on March 20, 2006, as the lead single from their debut album, Take to the Skies. The song explores themes of escapism, urging listeners to break free from societal constraints and find solace in music and unity. It embodies Enter Shikari‘s message of challenging the status quo and promoting positive change.

6. Their debut album (Take to the Skies) touches upon various themes, such as political activism, social commentary, and personal struggles. The band’s lyrics often reflect their dissatisfaction with the state of the world and their desire to inspire positive change and unity among listeners. The album reached #4 on the Official UK Album Chart, selling 28,000 copies in its first week of release.

7. To date the band have released 7 studio albums: Take to the Skies (2007), Common Dreads (2009), A Flash Flood of Colour (2012), The Mindsweep (2015), The Spark (2017), Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible (2020) and A Kiss for the Whole World (2023).

8. Enter Shikari‘s second album (Common Dreads) delves into various political and social issues, with lyrics that address topics such as government corruption, environmental destruction, war, and societal apathy.

9. “Juggernaughts” (the lead Common Dreads single) peaked at number 28 on the UK Singles Chart. The song encourages listeners to challenge oppressive systems, break free from conformity, and rise up against injustice. It serves as a rallying cry for social change and empowerment.

It confronts government inadequacies in addressing the global economic crisis, while also addressing the political landscape in Israel and the urgency of climate change.
