South African musician and producer Pixie Whip has released her latest single, “Spirited Boy.” Taken from her forthcoming EP Mood Butterfly (set for release in April 2025), the track pays tribute to the divine masculine—an energy that embodies both softness and strength, bringing healing and gratitude into her life.
“I wanted to write a love song rooted in deep gratitude,” Pixie Whip explains. “This song is about someone who offered me a sense of healing. Sometimes, we meet people who help us rewrite our understanding of love, and I wanted to celebrate that.”

The journey of “Spirited Boy” began unexpectedly during a work trip to Bloemfontein—a place not traditionally associated with artistic inspiration.
With her partner and their three-month-old puppy by her side, Pixie found herself in a moment of vulnerability and creative clarity. “Adventure always makes me want to write,” she shares. “In that moment, I felt held and centered, and I wanted to express my appreciation for this life.”
Musically, “Spirited Boy” draws influence from Greentea Peng’s “Soul Boy,” echoing its celebration of living in alignment with the soul. Pixie’s creative process began humbly, recording a rough demo in a makeshift setup without a pop filter or mic stand.
Back in her Cape Town home studio, the song evolved into a polished masterpiece, with her Jazzmaster guitar and a powerful bridge section bringing it to life.
“This song took eight months to refine,” Pixie reflects. “I was patient, playing it live in 2024 and allowing it to grow organically. The bridge section became the soul of the song, tying everything together beautifully.”
Pixie Whip’s recent signing with Tic Tic Bang at the end of 2024 marks an exciting new chapter in her career. After a whirlwind year of performances, 2025 promises to be even bigger, with “Spirited Boy” setting the tone for her most ambitious work yet.
