Pixie Whip Ignites The Music Scene With “Melt”

Emerging South African pop star, Pixie Whip is making waves with her scorching new single, “Melt.” With a potent blend of sensuality and energy, the track is dipped in the on-trend pop sound that many are used to hearing in the industry now.

Sexy and unapologetic, “Melt” takes audiences on an exhilarating journey through the depths of intense connection, cleverly weaving metaphors into an irresistibly catchy melody.

“The song is about feeling your best self with somebody and not being able to get enough of that bliss, like some kind of potion,” Pixie explains.

Her vision for this single extends beyond the dance floor, aiming to ignite a spark of love and self-empowerment in listeners. The pulsating rhythms and entrancing vocals invite a carefree escape, encouraging individuals to embrace the beauty of the moment and let their inhibitions fade away.

On the surface, the title of the song makes perfect sense with the lyrical content, but Pixie explains that it’s much more than that. “The title of the song also holds another meaning for me, on a musical level, where I feel like a lot of my fear towards music has “Melted”,” shares Pixie Whip. “Fear of showing my own production more, fear of not being perfect, fear of singing about things that make me happy and are a deep expression for me, and instead a strong feeling of radical belief has taken over instead.”

As a qualified sound engineer, having graduated from SAE (Australia) back in 2020, Pixie is involved in every aspect of the creative process of this latest single. “I am proud to say I wrote, engineered and produced this song with help from the right mentors at the final stage.” she says.

Collaborating with the esteemed Greg Abrahams of Sound Foundry, Pixie’s journey from inception to the final mix showcases her artistic prowess.

“I was so excited to show Greg what I had made. I had shown him songs before, but nothing like this. I’ve always been very self-motivated when it comes to music – the calling is so loud now that the songs come out of me with a sense of urgency (quite literally).” she says

The song’s production process was a testament to her dedication, guided by the experienced hand of renowned mixer Josh Berry for sonic refinement.

Explaining her belief on the explanation of an artists’ sound, Pixie shares that she believes it comes down to whoever they are at that point in time.

“I am in a very happy, magical place in my life, so this is what resonates with me the most. There have been times where I’ve made music that is the opposite, so I think it comes down to what you are feeling.” says Pixie Whip.

Different to her previous release, “Midnight Scenes”, she believes that this single embodies the identity of Pixie Whip to its core.

“Some of my writing is whimsical while other lines are more serious. I would say this song is a lot more Pixie Whip than “Midnight Scenes” mainly in my production, engineering and writing behind it.” she says.

Born Victoria, her name was often shortened to Vix and from there many called her ‘Pixie’ or ‘Pix’ as a nickname, resulting in her chosen artist name. A musical journey that began at the tender age of 10, Pixie first learned to play guitar before taking on the task of learning piano at age 13.

“I have never stopped playing and these are primarily what I use to start writing songs with, which is where Melt was interesting because it started with a sample and no instruments until later on.” she explains

A calling that she believes ‘found her’, music was always something she found her way back to, even when, at times, she tried to run from it.

“My first music teacher told me I could sing, and so I did. I started writing my first song at age 11 – I still know the chords and lyrics. This would be a huge catalyst as to why I got deeper into making music. Lyrics have always been a huge reason as to why I do music, the ability to say things you can’t in everyday communication.” explains Pixie Whip.

The feeling of seeing others enjoy her talent is something that continues to motivate her to continue. “What made me pursue music is that whenever I performed, people seemed to love it. It’s something I talk about quite often, but a lot of the way people responded to my music is what has kept me feeling a sense of responsibility to continue,” she explains.

“Artists talk a lot about “thanking their fans for making it possible” but it can be very true on a level such as this. Because the truth is, whenever I would sing, I would go to a place. The same place I’d go to when I was 10 years old just having fun and channeling the music.” says Pixie Whip.

When asked about what piece of advice she would give to a new artist breaking into this cut-throat industry, Pixie Whip shared the following: “When it comes to music law, know your stuff. Get good at taking feedback, from the RIGHT people. Allow yourself to throw away any ideas that aren’t working, there’s more where that came from.” This is only the beginning for this home-grown talent as she promises that the future holds “better songs with every release, maybe some that change the world a little.”
