Celeste Swift Releases Debut Single: “Now That You’re Gone”

Johannesburg-based singer-songwriter Celeste Swift has officially launched her deeply personal solo debut, releasing both the single and accompanying music video for “Now That You’re Gone.” Co-produced by award-winning musician Mark Beling, the song is an emotionally charged reflection on grief, delicately blending raw vulnerability with moments of quiet optimism.

“Now That You’re Gone” is Celeste’s tribute to her late father, whose death in 2014 left a profound and lasting impact on her life. For years, she carried unspoken pain that influenced her emotionally and creatively. When she eventually sat down to write, the lyrics came in an unfiltered outpouring of emotion.

Celeste Swift describes the writing process as a vital part of her healing—one that helped her confront her sorrow and begin to find peace. She hopes that others who have experienced similar loss will feel seen and less alone when they hear the song.

To bring the emotional weight of the song to life, Celeste teamed up with Mark Beling. His approach to production focused on highlighting the song’s emotional centre without overwhelming it.

Subtle guitar textures, gentle piano chords, and carefully placed rhythms create a soundscape that supports, rather than distracts from, Celeste Swift’s vocal performance. The arrangement mirrors the emotional arc of the lyrics—moving from quiet reflection to powerful crescendos.

The music video for “Now That You’re Gone” was filmed in the peaceful Gauteng countryside and intentionally kept visually simple to complement the emotional intensity of the song.

Two primary locations are used symbolically: an open field representing the emptiness and stillness of grief, and a railway track symbolising the continuation of life despite loss. The muted colour tones and unhurried pacing invite viewers to sit with the emotion and reflect.

More info about Celeste Swift

Celeste Swift began her music career in 2009 performing heartfelt cover songs at weddings, local bars, and intimate venues throughout South Africa. These early performances helped her learn how to build genuine emotional connections with audiences.

After a break from music, she returned in 2023 as the lead singer for alternative pop-rock band Headline, a move that reignited her passion for songwriting. In 2024, she founded her solo project Swift & Co., stepping into full creative control and marking a new era in her musical journey.

Celeste’s original work is deeply rooted in personal experience. Whether joyful or painful, her songs are grounded in emotional truth, offering a delicate balance of sorrow and resilience. Her live performances—whether at festivals or intimate private events—are known for their emotional authenticity and connection.

“Now That You’re Gone” also serves as a call to action for mental-health awareness. The song addresses themes of grief and suicide with sensitivity and care.

Celeste Swift is open about her own experiences and hopes to break the stigma around these difficult topics by encouraging honest conversations. She believes that if even one person feels moved to speak up, seek support, or reach out after hearing her music, then the song has fulfilled its purpose.

If you or someone you know is struggling with loss or mental-health challenges, please seek support from a mental-health professional or helpline in your area.
