Rising artist Cailyn Shelby takes listeners on a poignant journey through the trials and triumphs of young adulthood with the release of her debut full-length album, Growing Pains. The album, which includes the powerful lead single ‘Demons,’ also out today, is a testament to Cailyn’s songwriting prowess and her ability to capture the raw essence of life’s transformative moments.

More info about Cailyn Shelby

Cailyn, who previously released the hits ‘Best Mistake’, ‘Favourite Ex’ and ‘My Four Friends’ poured her heart and soul into Growing Pains, a 14-track collection of songs written over the past four years. These pivotal years marked a period of profound personal growth, filled with the highs and lows of love, heartbreak, finishing school, and facing the responsibilities of adulthood.

The project almost offers a concept album experience, with a flowing narrative that unfolds like a compelling story. Infused with retro elements, each track presents listeners with a unique sonic experience with a solid golden thread throughout. Cailyn’s humorous and light-hearted approach to serious heartbreak moments adds a distinctive charm to the album, inviting listeners to connect with the ups and downs of life in an engaging way.

Cailyn Shelby explains the songwriting process for the album

“Growing up isn’t easy, and I wanted to capture that in this album. There’s constant ups and downs and lessons being learnt and patterns being broken and moments that feel insurmountable. But that’s okay. It’s okay to feel all your emotions unapologetically; they are valid.”

Addressing the challenges of overcoming past experiences and trauma, the album resonates with themes of self-discovery and resilience. Cailyn shares her journey of navigating life’s complexities, from moving countries and making a life independently to finding joy amid the struggles. She emphasises the importance of embracing emotions and surrounding oneself with supportive individuals.

Cailyn Shelby collaborated closely with award-winning and platinum-selling producer Daniel Baron to craft each track on the album, and their synergy shines through in the album’s authenticity. Daniel’s understanding of Cailyn’s vision resulted in a body of work that effortlessly tells Cailyn’s story.

Cailyn Shelby comments on working with Daniel Baron

“I had the most amazing, life changing time creating these songs in my bedroom and in studio with Daniel. I say this a lot, but I truly don’t think I could have had a better person to make this album with. Daniel has been put under pressure with my deadlines and my sudden changes and embraced the emotions I felt when writing these songs, to put together, what we like to call, a masterpiece.”

The lead single off the album, ‘Demons,’ is an emotive pop anthem with a unique edge. In the song, Cailyn explores maintaining a relationship with past trauma and insecurities, acknowledging their impact on personal relationships. The track is powerful, catchy, and uplifting, portraying the resilience that comes from confronting one’s inner demons.

From radio interviews to major television appearances, and four popular singles released in 2023 alone, Cailyn is excited for listeners to experience the album, hoping that the songs resonate with them as they navigate life’s challenges themselves. ‘Growing Pains’ is not just a musical endeavour; it’s a heartfelt narrative that captures the universal struggles and triumphs of growing up.
