Multi-talented rapper and South African Hip Hop Award nominee Stilo Magolide unveils a more introspective side with his latest single “Kenny G”, lifted from his upcoming album STILOWAY, due for release later this month.
Written as an intimate reflection of his relationship and emotional evolution, “Kenny G” explores themes of love, vulnerability, and personal growth.
The track features Sastii, whose smooth vocals add warmth and depth, and Ekow Saxx, whose live saxophone brings the song to life – perfectly complementing the romantic sophistication of the jazz legend it’s named after.
“I wrote this song as an expression of where I am with my current partner and relationship,” says Stilo. “I wanted to tell that story in a way that’s emotionally honest and mature. If you listen to Kenny G’s music, you’ll understand the calmness, the grace – the kind of maturity I’m trying to channel.”
A Fusion of Jazz, Tradition, and Emotion
Opening with a velvety saxophone note, “Kenny G” immediately sets an intimate and soulful tone. The first verse – ‘Ngizok’jikisa ekhaya uyokhothwa idlozi. Ekhaya kini kuyopaka i’Loli – egcwele iy’nkomo’ – draws on ancestral symbolism, portraying love as both a spiritual and traditional blessing.
Stilo uses these lyrics to imagine a future grounded in commitment and cultural depth, where love is guided by ancestral approval. “Love is a beautiful thing,” he reflects. “When you introduce someone to your family, you’re showing intention. It’s about respect, tradition, and making sure your ancestors accept the person you’ve chosen.”
Vulnerability and Growth
In the second verse, Stilo strips away bravado and delivers a heartfelt confession:
‘I know I don’t always tell you that I love you, girl. It’s you and mama, ain’t no one above you. It broke my heart the day I almost lost you.’
Through these lines, he acknowledges that love requires accountability, humility, and growth. The song’s vulnerability highlights a rare side of Stilo – one that values sincerity over ego and connection over performance.
