Blue Vow, the experimental music project led by Cape Town-based artist Chelsea Ann Peter, has unveiled its fourth single, “Oistrophaneia”.
This haunting track delves into themes of light and darkness, intertwining personal and mythological elements, and serves as a prelude to the upcoming album, Death of a Big Black Dog, slated for release in 2024.

“One does not attain enlightenment by merely conjuring images of light, but by confronting the darkness within. Yet, this latter process is often uncomfortable and therefore unpopular.” Carl Jung
Inspired by Carl Jung’s concept of embracing the shadow self, “Oistrophaneia” also draws from the mythology of Hekate, the Dark Mother, who presides at the crossroads of transformation and wisdom.
The song pays homage to the healer and medicine woman archetype, portraying the journey through the dark night of the soul and the reckoning with one’s shadow. Reflecting on Jung’s words, Chelsea Ann Peter notes, “One does not attain enlightenment by merely conjuring images of light, but by confronting the darkness within.”
The music video, directed by Sabina van Rooyen in her debut, explores the dynamic relationship between light and dark, taking the viewer to the crossroads and diving from one realm to another.
Peter’s intricate production and richly layered soundscapes are now bolstered by her expanded band, which includes Joy Markus, Damon Miles, Cam Lofstrand, and Stephan Erasmus.
