In case you were wondering, Two Stroke is a one woman Garage Rock outfit with a raw stripped down sound. This rocker of note plays guitar, bass drum, hi-hats / tambourine and does vocals at the same time and that’s definitely impressive in my books.
“Warmest Colour” is the debut album by Two Stroke and features 10 original tracks. All songs on the album are written and performed by self-taught Cape Town based musician Ellenie Eloff. The album was written while Eloff was undergoing chemotherapy.
She turned her recovery into an opportunity to immerse herself in songwriting, developing the fullest sound she could on her own using what she had: a guitar, a bass drum, hi hats and her voice. The result is an album crammed full of crunching guitar, raw vocals and a thumping background beat.
I cranked up “Warmest Colour” the other day and I have to admit that I was blown away. The album is definitely proof that the South African rock scene is alive and well and I would definitely love to experience a live performance by this one woman band.
Just crank up the album (which contains some really kief riffs) below and you will most likely agree with me.
Take note, you can download the album for FREE on Bandcamp. Dates for shows in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban are coming soon, so make sure that you keep an eye on the Two Stroke Facebook page.
I don’t know about you guys and girls, but I’m definitely making an effort to catch one of those live shows in Gauteng.
