South African sensation The Joy released their new single, “Precious,” on Friday, 19 June 2026. The track expertly blends Zulu and English verses, building on the group’s meteoric rise and growing global recognition.
True to form, the song moves through space that feels both refined and expansive, anchored by the rich, moving harmonies that have become their signature.
The Joy has a Distinct Global Voice
Hailing from a small town in KwaZulu-Natal, The Joy brings a distinct voice to global music through soul-stirring harmonies, rich cultural expression, and a deeply human sense of connection.
Their rise has been nothing short of spectacular, marked by critical acclaim, viral moments that have grown their TikTok following to over 1.1 million, and high-profile collaborations.
From Breakout to Global Icons
Since their breakout single “Isencane Lengane” and their 2021 debut EP Amabutho, the group has captivated international audiences. Their journey has included:
Iconic Performances: Electrifying appearances on The Jennifer Hudson Show and Later… with Jools Holland.
Global Praise: Acclaim from icons like Alicia Keys, Sam Smith, and Jennifer Hudson, who named them her “favourite band” and featured them on her album The Gift of Love.
Star-Studded Collaborations: Work ranging from a 2023 release with The Blessed Madonna (“Shades of Love”) to a feature on Doja Cat’s Scarlet 2 CLAUDE album.
A Commanding Live Presence
The Joy has graced some of the world’s most iconic stages, including Glastonbury, Coachella, WOMADELAIDE, Sziget, Green Man, Pukkelpop, and Way Out West.
They have also brought their vibrant vocal arrangements to major platforms such as Global Citizen Africa 2026 and Together for a Better Day, the annual tribute concert honoring Avicii.
Evolving Sound, Grounded Roots
As their sound evolves, The Joy is finding new ways to integrate their Zulu musical roots into contemporary global sounds and the modern Afropop landscape.
Their music feels simultaneously anchored in home and resonant across borders. While their reach extends across languages and cultures, the group remains grounded in their origin, often noting: “Life made us friends, music made us brothers.”
